The Birth of a Off-road Dream: Crafting the Motor Guard

We fused aerospace-grade aluminum with off-road intelligence—creating guards that absorb hits, deflect debris, and laugh in the face of terrain.

It all started with a broken line and a cracked stock plate.

Back in 2021, when I first started pushing my Sur-Ron Light Bee to its limits on technical trails, I realized quickly that the factory bash plate simply wasn’t up to the task. One direct hit from a jagged rock was enough to compromise critical components.

Coming from a professional CNC machining and fabrication background, I refused to let weak protection hold my rides back. I went straight to the workshop and designed a custom, heavy-duty skid plate that could actually take a beating.

From Open-Source Passion to Real Demand

At first, I had zero intentions of building a brand. I simply shared the CAD files and blueprints on rider forums and social media so fellow enthusiasts could make their own.

The response was overwhelming—but most riders didn’t have access to precision CNC machinery to build it themselves. The inbox messages kept rolling in: “Can you just make one for me?”

That was the turning point. I produced a small batch, dialed in the fitment, and launched. Riders loved the uncompromising durability, and what started as a personal weekend fix quickly evolved into a dedicated production run.

Relentless Iteration & Problem-Solving

Great armor isn’t built overnight—it is forged through trial, error, and real-world abuse.

  • Evolving the Sur-Ron Armor: Early versions were virtually indestructible, but they were heavy and lacked vibration damping. We went back to the drawing board, optimizing weight-to-strength ratios and integrating custom rubber shock-absorbing pads to dissipate high-energy impacts away from the motor chassis.

  • Tackling KTM 2-Stroke Armor: Expanding into extreme enduro meant tackling complex geometry for combined frame and exhaust pipe protection. Without industrial 3D scanners in the early days, I spent a solid week scanning frame contours using an iPhone camera, followed by dozens of physical test fits and manual CAD revisions until the tolerances were dead-on.

Taking Full Control: Why We Built Our Own Factory

In the beginning, we relied on third-party manufacturing. However, outsourced machining meant compromised lead times, inconsistent quality control, and slow R&D cycles. To build the world’s best protection, we needed 100% control.

Today, SparksGuard operates its own dedicated manufacturing facility.

  • 100% In-House Production: From raw billet aluminum cutting and precision CNC bending to surface finishing and quality checks, every step happens under our roof.

  • Rapid R&D: We design, prototype, trail-test, and refine new iterations in days—not months.

  • Direct Factory Value: By eliminating middlemen and outsourcing markups, we deliver competition-grade armor directly to riders at fair, honest prices.

What’s Next

We live and breathe off-road performance. As the electric off-road landscape evolves, our mission remains crystal clear: to engineer the most resilient, precision-engineered protection systems for the next generation of e-motos.

Whether you are hitting rocky singletracks, technical enduro ascents, or full-throttle jump lines—we’ve got your motor covered.
